"All I ever wanted was to pick apart the day and put the pieces back together my way"

Of all the CMJ shows that happened tonight (namely The Arcade Fire, The New Pornographers, !!! w/CoCoRosie) I'm really happy I chose the Aesop Rock one. It's been a little bit since I've gone to a hip-hop show and the bill tonight most definitely made up for all the shows I've missed in the past few months. Along with Mr. Rock I was fortunate enough to see Mr. Lif and his uni-dred (reppin for Boston, Massive! Po! Po! etc.), Blackalicious, Lady Sovereign (you're right Jasonic, she's nice) and a bunch of Def Jux superstars. Clearly way more fun than spending the night at home watching monkey-boy address the nation.

New Dandy's album out this week. It's spaced out and sexy and of course I love it. Missed their show on Wednesday but I am strongly considering driving to Albania on Saturday to see them at Lark Fest. It will probably be a nicer experience to see them outside of the city anyway since there will be a lower percentage of Cool Kids in attendance. This is a good movie to see if you're a fan of them (the Dandys not Cool Kids) and/or the Brian Jonestown Massacre, who also will be playing a gig this Saturday. If I make it back in time I'd like to check that out too. Especially since this band is one of the openers.

do you have any more detailed reportage of the CMJ show? I really want to know how nice Lady Sov was. not to mention Aesop and the rest. did you take pics? post em anywhere? due to various shitty circumstance i haven't been taking any pics at shows. then when i did, (at Dizzee Rascal's Middle East performance) i was too far away. long from the days when i was alone, got there early and snapped away.

Um... no pix of that show. Sorry.

As for (semi-)detailed reportage:

Aesop Rock: always have been a fan. lyrics are on point, flow is tight, and he's cool w/o being too cool for skool.

Mr. Lif: that unidred is dangerous. this was my first time seeing it up close and personal. Da-amn.

Blackalicious: heard the new album is awesome but I haven't gotten a chance to listen to it yet. they're good though so I would be inclined to believe the hype.

Lady Sov: only caught the tail end of her act but what I saw was rad as hell. grime-tastic even. i like that she's young and ain't afraid to act a fool and be silly. November dates in NYC, Boston and MTL which I am eagerly awaiting. just have to pick a city...

P.S. Is it just me or does she look a bit like Sporty Spice? And by a bit I mean *exactly like* Sporty Spice.
