Sex, Drugs and Sign Language

This summer I'm taking an advanced ASL course that meets every morning from 7-11am. The course is geared towards interpreting majors and much of the focus is on vocabulary needed to interpret in courtrooms, prisons and other legal situations. Man, there's nothing like starting each day learning how to sign phrases like "anal insertion of Quaaludes." The best part is that our tests (referred to as "drug tests," naturally) consist of signing a drug-related story which includes 15-20 signs from our 30-year old textbook. I tried my best to include the sign for "Thai-stick" in my last story but alas, it couldn't be done.

Next week we start on sex signs.
